The Maintenance and Beautification Program plays a critical role in the revitalization efforts of Downtown Yakima. Funded by a Business Improvement District Assessment, the program is subcontracted to the Downtown Association of Yakima which has a vested interest in seeing the program thrive and goes the extra mile to achieve a quality downtown.
The program is headed up by DAY Operations Manager, John O’Rourke, who oversees a team that works the district. Main objectives include daily trash removal and general cleaning, graffiti removal, landscaping, power washing, management of the flower program (hanging baskets, street level pots and planters), irrigation, pruning and vegetation management, ice and snow abatement, and Christmas Tree selection and placement, along with special projects.
The team works closely with business and building owners in the district to achieve these goals and respond to needs. They provide an extra set of eyes and a smiling face as they care for the downtown. The crew also provides much needed support for several of DAY’s special events.
