Chalk Art Fest October 13th

FOURTH ANNUAL CHALK ART FESTIVAL IN DOWNTWON YAKIMA

This year’s theme is Superheroes

For the fourth straight year the Downtown Association of Yakima (DAY) will host Chalk Art Festival in the heart of Downtown Yakima. This year’s theme will be Superheroes. Chalk Art Fest is a celebration of art and community, with a music and a little bit of food thrown into the mix! This year’s presenting sponsor is Ron’s Coins & Collectibles. Event funding is also provided by a grant from Fresh Hop Ale Festival.

Families and community members are invited to attend the event and draw on the sidewalks along side artists who create more elaborate pieces with soft pastels provided by DAY. This event is completely free and chalk is provided to the community members, as well. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded in the artist category by judges.

Chalk Art Fest occurs on North 3rd Street between Staff Sergeant Pendleton Way and Yakima Avenue. This year’s event will occur between 10 am and 3 pm on Saturday, October 13th. Families and community members are encouraged to come to the information booth to choose their chalk. Artists are required to pre-register with the event and check in between 8 and 10 am to receive their pastels and be assigned a space. Interested artists should contact DAY by sending an email to director@downtownyakima.com.

In addition to all the art, there will be music from local artists throughout the festival. The line up is listed below.

“Chalk Art Festival is always such a happy day,” says DAY Executive Director, Andrew Holt. “It is always so wonderful to see the children smiling and showing off their creations to their parents, and to see community members engaging with one another, and it is all free!”

“The artists play a huge role in the event”, adds Holt. “Every year, they produce incredible pieces of art. They just blow us away.”

With this year’s theme being Superheroes, children are encouraged to wear a costume of their favorite hero to the event.
