Are You Ready for Chalk Art Fest 2019?

5th Annual Downtown Yakima Chalk Art Fest

This Year’s Theme: My Favorite Movie

Yakima, WA – The Downtown Association of Yakima (DAY) is excited about hosting the 5th Annual Downtown Yakima Chalk Art Festival on Saturday, October 12, in the heart of Downtown Yakima on North 3rd Street.  The community, family friendly event was created in 2015 to provide a fun and free day to the Yakima community for the purposes of coming together to celebrate art, family, friends, and community. This year’s event is sponsored by Ron’s Coins and Collectibles and Essencia Artisan Bakery.

What is going on:   From 11 – 3 community members can come down to N. 3rd Street and receive some free chalk to draw anything to their hearts content. They can draw in relation to this year’s theme – My Favorite Movie – or they can just do their own things. Trained artists will be drawing elaborate pieces for public enjoyment but also judging with 1st through 3rd prizes awarded. The public can also vote on a People’s Choice Award Winner.

There will also be food vendors, including kettle corn, hot dogs, and tacos.

Live music will be provided by a group of young individual artists. Music is coordinated by Omar Gambito who has put together a super lineup. The full lineup is listed at the end of this media alert.

What is new this year:   There will be a photo booth available for the public to take fun selfies. DAY will provide movie props for folks to have some fun with as they take their pics.

There will be an official awards ceremony at 2 pm at the music stage. In year’s past, The People’s Choice Winner and the judge’s choices were announced after the event through social and conventional media. This year, there will be a ceremony to announce and feature the winners.

Where and When: Downtown Yakima Chalk Art Fest takes place from 11 – 3 on Saturday, October 12. N. 3rd Street between Yakima Avenue and Staff Sargent Pendleton Way is closed off.

Theme: My Favorite Movie. Participants are encouraged to draw pieces that have a movie or movie star theme. The trained artists will be partially judged on how well their piece captures the spirit of the theme.
