Ellen Allmendinger is a local historian and author whose books, walking tours, and historical presentations have helped bring the history of Yakima alive. Her latest book, “Murder and Mayhem in Central Washington,” recounts the early twentieth century crimes, and criminals, that ran rampant in the cities and towns of Central Washington. From bootlegging and assassinations, to shootouts and horse thieves, the tales collected in Allmendinger’s book reveal the surprising local history that once made this the roughest region of the Pacific Northwest.
