Downtown Yakima is the place to be for all things festive this holiday season. From the annual lighting of the Christmas tree at Millennium Plaza to free horse drawn carriage rides, the downtown will have everyone on your list covered.
Kicking off the festivities on Friday, November 27th is Light Up the Plaza featuring Santa’s arrival, a light ceremony of the City’s Christmas Tree and great live music to get you in the holiday spirit. The event takes place in front of the Capitol Theatre on S. 3rd Street and starts at 6 PM. Afterwards, be sure to head over to Ron’s Coin and Books to get a free picture with the star of the night, Santa.
December 4th is First Friday and there are fun activities for family members of all ages downtown. Multiple venues will have live music and the Capitol Theatre will have the winners of America’s Got Talent, the Olate Dogs performing live.
Saturday, December 5th kicks off the first of 5 days of free carriage rides in downtown. The dates for the free rides are December 5th, 11th, 12th, 18th, and 19th. The wagon will pick up riders in front of Millennium Plaza on Saturdays between noon and 4 PM and on Friday’s between 5 PM and 9 PM.
The fun keeps going with the 16th Annual Holiday Light Parade on Sunday, December 6th. The Yakima Rotaract’s are kicking off the parade with a dasher dash to open the parade before dozens of illuminated vehicles cruise down the Ave. Head down early to catch the Christmas Pops Spectacular at the Capitol Theatre as the Yakima Symphony Choir sings their hearts out to traditional holiday favorites, be sure to join in on the sing-along portion.
