For the fourth consecutive year the Downtown Association of Yakima (DAY) will award grants to downtown businesses and building owners to assist them in the enhancement of their structures as part of the continuing effort to revitalize Downtown Yakima.
The program consists of a 50/50 matching grant award that addresses improvements and restoration to the façade of a structure. Total grant allotments can range up to $10,000 per project.
Last year’s project provided structural restoration and the painting of a new mural on the south facing wall of the heretofore Opera House building which is now home to Crafted. Three separate projects in previous years involved the Thai House, the Lee Semon Building, and the Loofburrow Wetch Architects building.
The Application Period will run from until April 30th. Application forms are available to download from the DAY website at the following link: DAY Façade Improvement Grant Program Application and at the DAY office, located at 14 S. 1st Street. Any questions can be directed to the DAY staff by calling 509-571-1328 or sending an email to email@example.com.
Once the deadline has passed, the Façade Improvement Grant Selection Committee will convene to review applications and award grants. Grant recipients will be announced soon thereafter in order to give grant recipients plenty of time to finish their projects during the construction season.
“The Façade Improvement Grant Program is another way that DAY can make a difference in the revitalization of Downtown Yakima, “says DAY Executive Director, Andrew Holt. “The Board has decided to annually allocate a portion of the general operating budget to provide this program because it is such a tangible way to support our downtown community and to further the revitalization efforts.”
“We also appreciate the business and building owners who want to take part in the program, for it shows their commitment towards investing in Downtown Yakima,” adds Holt.
